The Case for a Fishy Tooth Fairy
Fatherhood is such a fun experience. I have been blessed to have a fishy bunch of kids that love the outdoors and are perfect little fishing buddies. We love encouraging their outdoorsy tendencies as often as we can. That goes beyond the trails and fishing holes that we frequent. For instance, our son Sage is a fish crazy young boy. He also has an awesome Tooth Fairy named “Brookie”. Instead of the standard going rate for a tooth, this tooth fairy will drop off a special fishing lure with a tip to go with it. His eyes light up every time he looses a tooth!
Sage with and epic Rainbow Trout
Having a fishy tooth fairy has many benefits. First off, rather than a sweet treat or a few coins, wouldn’t you want a lucky fishing lure? Not only is it a great way to encourage proper teeth care, but it also makes the next fishing outing just a little more magical.
Sometimes a tooth will fall out unexpectedly. Sage will write a letter to Brookie and it will take a day or two for the response. Obvousally, Brookie was out on an epic fishing adventure with a killer story to captivate Sage and his fishing imagination. Along with the lure comes a fishing tip. Whether its the perfect trout spinner or a special ice fishing jig, nothing will install confidence like a magical gift from your tooth fairy.
The kids are all super eager to keep up on their teeth care and even more eager to hit the water and try out their new favorite fishing gear. More often than not, they’ll catch a fish and their eyes light up. “I knew it would work” with a smile on their face.
I am not sure what’s the best part. Seeing his joy as he reads the letter out loud, or how happy he is when he catches his first fish with his new lure. It quickly becomes Brookie’s spinner or Brookie’s Jig. It’s a wonderful tradition that I hope he will continue with his little trout bums when they come along.
If you are lucky enough to have tooth fairies in your future…maybe they’ll be a little fishy too. Enjoy the ride and have fun with your little fishing buddy.
